This is part of a series of articles designed to help you and your teams to move through the seven stages of change when it comes to AI readiness in the workplace.
In previous articles we wrote about stages 1 – 3 of the Kubler-Ross Change Curve (Shock, Denial and Frustration) in relation to AI, and some actions you and your teams can take to get through these. Are any of your people stuck in the depression stage?
STAGE 4 – DEPRESSION
The sheer scale of AI’s potential can feel daunting, leading to a sense of depression or hopelessness. You might be experiencing thoughts like, “We’re too far behind,”, “This is just too big to tackle”, or “How will our teams ever adapt to this?”
It’s easy to feel paralysed by the immense implications for your workforce and IT systems. It’s okay to feel this way. Many leaders are grappling with the feeling that the mountain is too high to climb, but don’t get stuck there!
Here are some practical steps that you can take to help your teams overcome this stage:
- Offer empathy, let people know their feelings are valid and it’s okay for them to feel the way they do.
- Break down the challenge into smaller, manageable steps (remember that clear roadmap and AI policy I mentioned?).
- Highlight personal development and career opportunities that can result from this change
- Empower your teams to embrace the challenge that lies ahead through discussions, real-world examples and practical uses that will assist them in their day-to-day work.
- Help them to build confidence and transform uncertainty into capability.
Next we’ll be taking a detailed look at the Experiment stage. In the meantime why not take a look at our free quiz to find out whereabouts on the curve you are at the moment?
