This is part of a series of articles designed to help you and your teams to move through the seven stages of change when it comes to AI readiness in the workplace.
In previous articles we wrote about stages 1 – 4 of the Kubler-Ross Change Curve (Shock, Denial, Frustration & Depression) in relation to AI, and some actions you and your teams can take to get through these. Have your people moved into the experiment stage yet?

STAGE 5 – EXPERIMENT
If you are a keen lifelong learner, early adopter or an IT professional, you’ve likely moved past the initial challenges and are already experimenting with AI tools yourself. What about your team members elsewhere in the organisation?
You might be asking: “How do we actually start using AI effectively?”, “What are the most practical tools for our teams to try safely?”, “Where can we see immediate, tangible benefits without massive investment?” or “How can we minimise risk?”.
This exploratory phase is crucial. You’re looking for low-risk ways to test AI’s capabilities, identify key use cases, and begin building AI literacy within your teams.
Here are some practical steps to help you facilitate and empower your team through the experiment stage:
- Encourage and support experimentation within the boundaries of your AI Policy.
- Turn curiosity into capability through practical workshops.
- Provide resources and a safe environment for trial and error.
- Highlight limitations as well as opportunities.
- Celebrate learning, not just perfection.
Next we’ll be taking a detailed look at the Decision stage. In the meantime why not take a look at our free quiz to find out whereabouts on the curve you are at the moment?
